Hardwired vs Wireless GPS Tracker

Hardwired trackers are always-on and hidden; wireless/battery trackers are portable. Choose by vehicle type, installation and how often you can charge.

Actualizado 10/7/2026

Hardwired GPS trackers connect directly to the vehicle's power and are concealed during install — best for fleet, truck and anti-theft use where you never want the device to go dark. Wireless (battery-powered) GPS trackers are self-contained and movable between assets like trailers, containers, equipment or livestock, but need a long-life battery or periodic charging. The right choice depends on whether the asset has constant power and how often it changes hands.

How Hardwired Trackers Work

Wired to the vehicle battery (usually 12V/24V with a relay for immobilization), they report continuously and support Ignition/ACC, fuel and CAN data. Installation requires basic wiring but is permanent and tamper-resistant.

How Wireless Trackers Work

Powered by an internal lithium battery, they wake on motion or a schedule to save power. Many use magnetic mounts for quick placement on trucks, trailers, generators or containers. Battery life ranges from weeks to years depending on report interval.

Which Should You Choose?

Pick hardwired for vehicles you own and track daily (fleets, trucks, cars). Pick wireless for assets without constant power, frequent re-assignment, or covert placement (trailers, rentals, equipment, pets).
