GPS Platform, Open Protocol & API Integration
GPS Tracker Platform & API Integration Guide: Protocol, Own Server & Third-Party Platforms
When a tracker must connect to your own platform, Traccar, Flespi or a third-party telematics system, first choose the integration path: receive raw TCP/UDP data directly, or use a REST API for positions, trips and alerts. Then configure the server address, port and APN and validate the data path with a live device.
Integrate a GPS Tracker Platform in Four Steps
Define the target platform and connection method, understand the data protocol, select API or raw packets, then configure the device server and network settings.
How to Connect a GPS Tracker to Your Own Server
Point the tracker at your server IP and port, choose TCP/UDP, set the packet format, and your platform will receive location records directly.

A communication protocol is the rule set a tracker uses to send position records to a server over TCP/UDP. Open protocols let you integrate any platform.

A GPS tracking API lets your software pull positions, trips and alerts or send commands to devices over REST/WebSocket — without parsing raw protocol.

Set the carrier APN (and user/password if required) via SMS or config tool so the tracker can reach GPRS and send data.

Can FOFN GPS trackers connect to my own server?
Yes. Configure the device with the destination domain or IP, port and TCP/UDP mode, then make sure your server can parse the protocol for that model. Confirm firewall rules, SIM data and APN settings before deployment.
How should I choose between raw TCP/UDP protocol and REST API?
Choose raw TCP/UDP when you run your own listener and need full control of device packets. Choose a REST API when you want a managed interface for positions, trips and alerts without maintaining a packet parser.
Do the devices support Traccar or Flespi?
Yes. Configure the server address, port and protocol required by the chosen platform, then bind the device using its IMEI or other identifier and validate live data.
What should I prepare before requesting protocol or API access?
Define the device model, target country and network, target platform or server, required data fields and whether you need history, alerts, sensor data or remote commands.
